Can DNA testing be used to determine nationality?
Strictly speaking, DNA testing cannot directly identify "nationality".Nationality is a legal concept and indicates which country one is a citizen of.It is not based on genetic information, but depends on legal conditions such as place of birth and nationality acquisition procedures.
However, it is possible to identify ethnic backgrounds and genetic roots through DNA analysis. For example, if a particular genetic marker or DNA pattern is common in a certain region or ethnic group, it can provide clues as to which region a person's ancestors originated from. This allows us to make inferences about the roots of our ancestors, for example, "European" or "East Asian" descent.
However, these genetic backgrounds do not necessarily match modern nationalities, so we do not know directly from DNA what country nationality this person has.
