NIPT (New Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) is performed after 10 weeks of pregnancy. During the 10th week of pregnancy, the fetal brain, heart, liver, and other major organs start to develop, and fetal DNA manifests in the mother’s blood.
Have you heard of NIPT
(New Non-Invasive
Prenatal Test)?
NIPT (New Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) is a new kind of prenatal test that can examine chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18), and Patau syndrome (Trisomy 13) of the fetus by estimating the amount of DNA of the fetus in blood samples taken from the mother. It is a blood test that can be done as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy to screen for chromosomal abnormalities. NIPT is a highly accurate screening test, but it is not diagnostic and a positive result requires follow-up diagnostic testing such as chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis.
